COVID Medicines Delivery Unit

Our service is currently responsible for supplying antiviral treatment for COVID-19 to eligible highest risk patients in West Berkshire. At present only a small number of conditions on the high risk register meet the criteria to allow a patient to receive a COVID treatment.

Eligibility criteria is set by NHSE and is regularly updated when new treatments are available and new eligibility criteria are added. In a few circumstances we can justify giving treatment to those outside of the criteria who are unwell and very high risk but this needs approval by our lead consultant and sometimes discussion with the specialist team.

PLEASE NOTE: All patients on the high risk register who have a positive PCR test or registered LFT should be automatically referred to our team to be triaged. We aim to call patients within 24-48 hours of receiving a referral. Currently, we are seeing very few patients become seriously unwell with COVID and many patients will start to improve after 72 hours without antivirals.
